Text of President's New Year's Message - Yahoo! News

The New Year is a time of hope as we reflect on the past and prepare for the future.

The great strength of our nation lies in the hearts and souls of the American people. This past year, Americans responded with an outpouring of compassion to help the people of the Gulf Coast region recover from one of the most devastating natural disasters in our nation's history.

We remember the victims of the past year's hurricanes and give thanks for the millions of people who opened their hearts, homes, and communities to those in need.

In the past year, we continued our work to spread freedom and peace. In 2005, Iraqis three times exercised their right to vote in free elections, and the Afghan people conducted successful parliamentary elections. In the coming year, America will continue to stand beside these young democracies and lay the foundation of peace for our children and grandchildren.

We appreciate the brave men and women in uniform who protect our country and advance freedom around the world. We are grateful to their families for their support and sacrifice, and we pray for all those who have lost loved ones in freedom's cause. Our nation will always remember the heroes who have given their lives to protect us all.

As we celebrate the New Year, we give thanks to God for his blessings and ask for his guidance. We look with hope to the year ahead and the many new opportunities the future will bring.

Laura and I send our best wishes for a happy New Year. May God bless you, and may God continue to bless America.

The Bible translated into Gullah

The Bible translated into Gullah: "David Frank"

ST. HELENA ISLAND, SC, United States (UPI) -- Descendants of slaves brought to the Sea Islands off South Carolina have helped translate the Bible into Gullah -- the language of their ancestors.
The Los Angeles Times reported 'De Nyew Testament' was unveiled in South Carolina last month at an annual festival to celebrate Gullah culture. The Gullah gospel was written by descendants of slaves under the direction of traveling missionaries.
Gullah developed as a way for 17th-century slaves brought to the islands from West Africa to communicate with one another. The islands were so isolated that Gullah never evolved toward standard English.

Iran Focus-News - Iran (General) - Iran says Muslim nations should unite

Iran Focus

Tehran, Iran, Dec. 26 – Iran’s Majlis (Parliament) Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel said on Monday that the Islamic Republic wanted Islamic nations to unite, according to the Majlis wire service.

Haddad-Adel made the comments as he met with Basri Hassan-ol-Din, the Indonesian ambassador to Tehran.

“We strongly support unity among Islamic nations”, the Majlis Speaker said, adding that such unity was critical in preserving the interests of the nations.

Tehran is banking on Jakarta’s support in a possible upcoming showdown over its controversial nuclear activities which the West believes is for developing the A-bomb. Indonesia is one of 35 governing board members of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that have the power to refer Tehran’s nuclear dossier to the United Nations Security Council.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad blasts belligerence of "some countries"

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad delivered a speech on Thursday, 15th December to thousands of University students in Zahedan, capital of Sistan-Baluchestan province in the south-east of Iran, in which he criticized countries which stockpile weapons, for whom ethics has no place in policy.

"Today mankind is in search of tranquility and sustainable peace, which could be materialized only through justice, spirituality, and monotheism," he declared, adding that "some countries" have built up stockpiles of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons in order to hold down other nations and justify their acts of testing the chemical weapons on people by claiming that ethics has no place in policy.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad declared that the people in Western Europe and the USA are "disillusioned" because they do not believe their governments can provide sustainable peace.

Qur'an 2:65. And indeed you knew those amongst you who transgressed in the matter of the Sabbath (i.e. Saturday). We said to them: "Be you monkeys, despised and rejected.

Qur'an 7:163. And ask them (O Muhammad ) about the town that was by the sea, when they transgressed in the matter of the Sabbath (i.e. Saturday): when their fish came to them openly on the Sabbath day, and did not come to them on the day they had no Sabbath. Thus We made a trial of them for they used to rebel (see the Qur'ân: V.4:154).

164. And when a community among them said: "Why do you preach to a people whom Allâh is about to destroy or to punish with a severe torment?" (The preachers) said: "In order to be free from guilt before your Lord (Allâh), and perhaps they may fear Allâh."

165. So when they forgot the remindings that had been given to them, We rescued those who forbade evil, but We seized those who did wrong with a severe torment because they used to rebel (disobey Allâh).

166. So when they exceeded the limits of what they were prohibited, We said to them: "Be you monkeys, despised and rejected." (It is a severe warning to the mankind that they should not disobey what Allâh commands them to do, and be far away from what He prohibits them).
