Mohamadist Kills Jew, what else is new?

ABIDJAN -- A Paris gang leader was arrested overnight in Abidjan and has confessed to the kidnap, torture and murder of a young French Jewish man, Ivorian investigators said on Thursday, in a case that has horrified France.

Youssouf Fofana, 25, who fled to Ivory Coast shortly after the dying Ilan Hamili was found on February 11, could be extradited back to France by the end of the day, according to French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin. "He has French nationality. He has been arrested by the Ivorian police. [French] police investigators are on the scene, so we believe he could be repatriated to France in the coming hours,"
Villepin told Canal Plus television, referring to Fofana. "This is an odious crime, and it is therefore important that justice be rapidly carried out," he said.

However, Abidjan state prosecutor Raymond Tchimou was quoted by the French daily Le Monde as saying that the process could take longer. "Extradition can be a drawn-out process. We need to get all the documents together ... We will go as quickly as we can.

He could be back in France by the end of the week," Tchimou was quoted as saying. Ivorian police said that Fofana - a convicted petty criminal of Ivorian origin - had admitted taking part in Halimi's kidnap and murder.

But they said that "he denies any anti-Semitic dimension" to the crime. Halimi, a 23-year-old telephone salesman, went missing in late January after being lured into a trap by a woman. He was held and tortured for three weeks in a poor multi-ethnic suburb of Paris by a gang that sent ransom demands to his family.

Ten days ago he was dumped beside a railway line just south of Paris city center. Naked, bound and gagged, his body bore horrific injuries and he died on the way to hospital. The crime struck horror in France's 500,000-strong Jewish community, where it was widely assumed that Halimi had been targeted because of his Jewishness.

After initial reluctance, the French authorities earlier this week said that they, too, believe that anti-Semitism was part of the gang's motives.

On Tuesday the investigating magistrate heading the case opened the way for aggravated charges of racial hatred against gang members.

Arab and Islamic governments should pressure the United Nations to ban the slandering of religions, said more than 200 Arab politicians who renewed their criticism today of the contentious Prophet Muhammad cartoons.

The call, which was made at the end of a two-day conference at a Dead Sea resort in Jordan, comes amid outrage felt throughout the Islamic world over the publication in a Danish newspaper of a series of cartoons of Islam’s prophet.“We urge

Arab and Muslim governments to spare no effort to pressure the UN to issue a resolution banning the slandering of religions,” the politicians from 16 Arab countries representing the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union said in a statement.

"Go elsewhere for sharia law: Australian treasurer
From Australia's News.com.au:

ANYONE who believes Islamic sharia law can co-exist with Australian law should move to a country where they feel more comfortable, Treasurer Peter Costello said today.

All Australian citizens must adhere to the framework in society which maintains tolerance and protects the rights and liberties of all, he said. It is a pre-condition for citizenship of Australia.

Mr Costello was giving a speech on the meaning of Australian citizenship to the Sydney Institute.

'There is one law we are all expected to abide by,' Mr Costello said.

'It is the law enacted by the Parliament under the Australian Constitution.

'If you can't accept that, then you don't accept the fundamentals of what Australia is and what it stands for.'"

WTOL-TV Toledo, OH: Toledo-Area Men Arrested for Terrorist Activity

TOLEDO -- A federal grand jury has indicted three Toledo-area men for terrorist activities. Prosecutors say the three conspired to wage a "holy war" against the United States and coalition forces in the Middle East. The indictment was unsealed Monday.

The U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is expected to release more details at a news conference this afternoon in Washington D.C.
According to the indictment from the US Attorney's office, the suspects are Mohammad Zaki Amawi, Marwan Othman El-Hindi, and Wassim Mazloum. The indictment says all three were living in the Toledo area. Amawi is a citizen of the US and also a citizen of Jordan.

El-Hindi is a naturalized American citizen who was born in Jordan. Mazloum is a legal permanent resident of the US, who came here from Lebanon.

Mazloum also operated a car business in Toledo with his brother. The indictment accuses him of offering to use his dealership as a cover for traveling to and from Iraq so that he could learn how to build small explosives using household materials.

The indictment also names an unindicted co-conspiratory called "The Trainer," who has U.S. military backround in security, and bodyguard training.

In count 1 of the indictment, prosecutors say the three met together many times, going back as far as November 2004. The three reportedly conspired to recruit and train others for a violent jihad against United States forces and US allies in Iraq. They also reportedly put together the funding needed for the operation, and collected the equipment needed, and even travelled together to a local indoor shooting range for target practice.

Prosecutors also say the three communicated by computer with an individual in the Middle East, passing information about potential attacks and terrorist training materials back and forth, as well as communication about potential weapons and targets.

WASHINGTON

Two Republican governors on Monday questioned a Bush administration decision allowing an Arab-owned company to operate six major U. S. ports, saying they may try to cancel lease arrangements at ports in their states.

New York Gov. George Pataki and Maryland Gov. Robert Ehrlich voiced doubts about the acquisition of a British company that has been running the U.S. ports by Dubai Ports World, a state-owned business in the United Arab Emirates.

The British company, Peninsular and Oriental, runs major commercial operations at ports in Baltimore, Miami, New Jersey, New Orleans, New York and Philadelphia.

"Ensuring the security of New York's port operations is paramount and I am very concerned with the purchase of Peninsular & Oriental Steam by Dubai Ports World," Pataki said in a news release.

"I have directed the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to explore all legal options that may be available to them in regards to this transaction," said the New York governor, who is still in the hospital recovering from an appendectomy.

Ehrlich, concerned about security at the Port of Baltimore, said Monday he is "very troubled" that Maryland officials got no advance notice before the Bush administration approved an Arab company's takeover of the operations at the six ports.
"We needed to know before this was a done deal, given the state of where we are concerning security," Ehrlich told reporters in the State House rotunda in Annapolis.

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Saying the nation is on the verge of technological breakthroughs that would "startle" most Americans, President Bush on Monday outlined his energy proposals to help wean the country off foreign oil.

Less than half the crude oil used by refineries is produced in the United States, while 60 percent comes from foreign nations, Bush said during the first stop on a two-day trip to talk about energy.
Some of these foreign suppliers have "unstable" governments that have fundamental differences with America, he said.

"It creates a national security issue and we're held hostage for energy by foreign nations that may not like us," Bush said.

Bush is focusing on energy at a time when Americans are paying high power bills to heat their homes this winter and have only recently seen a decrease in gasoline prices.

One of Bush's proposals would expand research into smaller, longer-lasting batteries for electric-gas hybrid cars, including plug-ins. He highlighted that initiative with a visit Monday to the battery center at Milwaukee-based auto-parts supplier Johnson Controls Inc. (

Trafalgarsquare in London in March 25 at 2-4pm

From Faith and Freedom

would just like to announce here , that we are planning a protest march in London Trafalgarsquare in London in March 25 at 2-4pm !!!

The strength and survival of free society and the advance of human knowledge depend on the free exchange of ideas. All ideas are capable of giving offence, and some of the most powerful ideas in human history, such as those of Galileo and Darwin, have given profound religious offence in their time.

The free exchange of ideas depends on freedom of expression and this includes the right to criticise and mock.

We assert and uphold the right of freedom of expression and call on our elected representatives to do the same.

We abhor the fact that people throughout the world live under mortal threat simply for expressing ideas and we call on our elected representatives to protect them from attack and not to give comfort to the forces of intolerance that besiege them.

Information will be posted at http://marchforfreeexpression.blogspot.com about the event, together with updates on supporting organisations and individuals.

If you are interested in helping, attending or supporting this event, please contact us at marchforfreespeech@googlemail.com

Since we are in favour of free speech, and because the reason why newspapers and magazines across Europe (though not, shamefully, in the UK) have republished the infamous cartoons was principally "We are Spartacus" - we stand together - we will be happy to see reproductions of the cartoons in question at the rally.

But we will not be happy to see expressions of intolerance. Islamofascists are just that: fascists. And fascists will not be welcome.

PM's Muslim comments 'offensive'

Prime Minister John Howard's suggestions that some Muslims are extremists who cannot embrace the country's ways are offensive and ignorant, the Islamic Council of NSW says.

Image hosting by Photobucket

Mr Howard today said he stood by his comments outlined in a book to mark his 10 years in power, claiming sections of Australia's Muslim population are antagonistic to Australian culture.

He said a commitment to jihad and extreme attitudes towards women were two problems unique to Muslims that previous intakes of migrants from Europe did not have, and that Australia wanted people to assimilate and adopt Australian ways.

Mr Howard said today it was his "right and duty" to express his thoughts.

"I stand by those comments that there is a small section of the Islamic population in Australia that, because of its remarks about jihad, remarks which indicate an extremist view, that is a problem," Mr Howard told reporters in Sydney.

The plan calls for an increase in special operations forces by 15 percent, including the establishment of the first Marine Corps commando unit.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(AP) The Pentagon announced plans Friday to increase special operations forces, expand psychological warfare and develop a program to fight biological terrorism as part of a military strategy for the 21st century.

The plan comes three days before President Bush sends Congress a 2007 budget that seeks a nearly 5 percent increase in Defense Department spending to $439.3 billion, with significantly more for weapons programs, according to senior Pentagon officials and documents obtained by The Associated Press.

While the long-range plan released Friday does much to reshape the military to respond to terrorism threats, it also emphasizes continued U.S. dominance for conventional warfare.

Israel is putting the economic squeeze on the Palestinians, after the election of the Islamic militant group Hamas last month. Hamas is also under growing pressure from Palestinian moderates to renounce violence.

Israel's defense ministry has recommended barring Palestinian workers in the Gaza Strip from entering Israel and restricting the movement of goods. The measures, which are expected to be imposed next week, would be a severe blow to the Palestinian economy, already battered by five years of conflict.

Israel also plans to cut off $50 million in monthly tax payments to the cash-strapped Palestinian Authority. Israeli government spokesman Mark Regev says the move is part of economic pressure against a Hamas-led Palestinian parliament that will be sworn in on Saturday.

"No one can ask Israel to transfer funds to terrorist organizations like Hamas and have those funds come back to us in the form of suicide bombings," he said.

US House of Representatives Approves Resolution on Hamas
By Dan Robinson Washington16 February 2006

The House of Representatives has overwhelmingly approved a resolution opposing any new U.S. aid to the Palestinian Authority unless Hamas revokes its call for the destruction of Israel. The resolution is symbolic, but House members have introduced separate legislation that would provide for strong sanctions against the Palestinian Authority.

The resolution expresses the sense of Congress that no U.S. aid should be provided if any party holding a majority of seats in the Palestinian legislature advocates the destruction of Israel. In speeches on the floor of the House of Representatives, lawmakers voiced their opposition to any U.S. taxpayer dollars going to the Palestinian Authority until Hamas changes its stated goals and renounces violence.

"When Hamas looks at America, at the [Bush] administration, at the [U.S.] Congress, they must see nothing but fierce, unrelenting, and implacable rejection," said Congressman Gary Ackerman, a New York Democrat. "There can be no political absolution for this pack of killers. And the very idea of giving our taxpayers money to these bloody-handed fanatics, people who have slaughtered our own citizens, is offensive."

The True Face Of islam

NEW YORK CITY - So far, the violent riots that have erupted throughout the Muslim world over the Mohammed cartoons have not been repeated here in the U.S.

But yesterday in New York City, one radical Islamic group was preaching a message that is anything but peaceful.

This is not Pakistan or Gaza. It is Manhattan's east side--just a short drive from ground zero. The group calls itself the Islamic Thinker's Society—its, for short. The purpose of the demonstration was to condemn the now infamous cartoons.

But there was another message as well: that Islam will one day dominate the world.

One ITS member said, “We are here to tell you that there is nothing you can do--and that your days are numbered...all of you who disbelieve: speak good, or Allah will silence you.”

The protest began in front of the Danish Consulate. ITS members stomped on Danish flags and warned Denmark that it would suffer "allah's wrath." The group then moved to the German Consulate, where they trampled on German and Israeli flags--and called non-Muslims "scum."

All of this took place under the watchful eye of the NYPD. Onlookers we spoke to were outraged.

“Some people have evolved and matured and become civilized human beings, but they obviously haven't. And unfortunately we're supporting them and protecting them, too,” One NYC resident said.

The Queer Muhammad: an experiment in tolerance

The Queer Muhammad: an experiment in tolerance

Dear (NEA Chairman) Dana Gioia:
I write to you today, not with a request, but with a demand. I’ve been sitting back patiently while the NEA has been promoting anti-Christian “art” for a number of years. In fact, one could say that I have been supporting it, too, given that my tax dollars have been spent on this garbage.

And maybe I’ve been supporting it in another way by refusing to write you to express my frustration. That is, until now.

In the spirit of the “separation of church and state,” my demand is that you commission a painting – fully funded with tax dollars – that has one intention and one intention only: To offend Muslims everywhere.

This new painting will help the NEA avoid any accusations of state sponsorship of religion by insulting some religion other than Christianity. In the past, you’ve supported the “Piss Christ” and the “Elephant Dung Mary.” Now, I’m asking you to fund the “Queer Muhammad.”

For this painting, I want the artist to put the Prophet Muhammad in a pink bathrobe. I also want him holding a little toy poodle. Finally, I would like you to feature him reading a copy of “Playgirl” magazine. If you want to get daring, you can also feature him French-kissing Salmon Rushdie. Or better yet, feature him French-kissing Jacques Chirac.

Regardless of the precise form it takes, I want five million reproductions of the “Queer Muhammad” in poster form. It may sound like a large order for a first printing. But here’s what I intend to do with them:

First, I’m going to staple a “Queer Muhammad” on the door of Barbara Streisand. She’s been a real pain in the ass throughout this whole War on Terror. I want to see whether she gains some respect for George W. Bush after Islamic fascists torch her Southern California estate – all for expecting adherents to the “religion of peace” to be as tolerant of homosexuality as Hollywood liberals.

And, then, I’m heading to the Upper West Side to place a “Queer Muhammad” on the door of Michael Moore. That fat joker will be begging Charlton Heston for a gun by the time the New York City Muslims throw their first Molotov cocktail.

Next, we’re off to Colorado to the home of Ward Churchill. After I place a “Queer Muhammad” on his home, I’ll put one on his office door at the university. And, while I’m at it, I’ll hit the office doors of every anti-war professor in America.

I also plan to visit all those professors who have “Darwin fish” on their university office doors. For years, they’ve been desecrating a sacred Christian symbol with impunity. Come to think of it, many have been desecrating an Old Testament religious symbol by using rainbows as a backdrop for those “celebrate diversity” bumper stickers. When they place those on their office doors, they do more than just promote acceptance of sodomy. They ridicule a covenant between God and Noah.

Maybe after the Muslim Student Associations begin ripping down the “Queer Muhammad” posters – always leaving the Darwin fish intact - some of these professors will begin to realize that white Christian heterosexual males really aren’t so bad after all. And maybe some will realize that young Muslim males are the most dangerous demographic group on the face of the planet.

But the professors and the movie stars won’t be the only ones included in my little experiment in tolerance and diversity. I want to make sure to include members of the gay community, too. That’s why the “Queer Muhammad” will be posted on the door of every gay bar in San Francisco.

Under my plan, when California Muslims attack these businesses, the gay political lobby will finally have some use for politically correct and seldom-used “hate crimes” legislation. It will also give that large segment of the gay population – the ones who always need something to whine about – something legitimate to whine about. And it will give Christians a break from the gay mission to invade and pervert the Christian clergy.

That will leave me with about four million “Queer Muhammad” posters for the most ambitious aspect of my plan. This involves hanging posters on the doors of every active member of the National Rifle Association. When the Islamic fascists begin hurling stones at the houses of NRA members, many of my brothers (and sisters)-in-arms will start heading for the nearest gun safe. I know I will.

Maybe a few of these violent Muslims will survive their attack on the First Amendment, after it is thwarted by the Second Amendment. If so, I have a special plan for the Islamic fascist survivors. This plan was inspired by my realization that so many members of the anti-war movement are also members of the pro-gay movement. Here it is, in all its leftist-inspired brilliance:

The NRA members whose homes were attacked will all petition local Democratic prosecutors, the media, and even their Democratic legislators to charge the fascists with hate crimes for attacking the image of the “Queer Muhammad.” This will draw a line in the sand for these Democrats. Will they side with the Muslims against the gays? Or will they side with the gays against the Muslims?

If things work according to my plan, we will be able to kill off a lot of these Muslim terrorists and simply claim self-defense. Even better, we’ll cause significant division and strife among the American Left. After it all goes down, I’ll head to my refrigerator instead of my gun safe.

Then I’ll drink a nice, cold Carlsberg. Bottled and brewed by our allies in Denmark.

Italian minister puts Mohammad cartoon on T-shirts

By Crispian Balmer

ROME (Reuters) - Italy's Reform Minister Roberto Calderoli has had T-shirts made emblazoned with cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad in a move that could embarrass Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's government.

Calderoli, a member of the anti-immigrant Northern League party, told Ansa news agency on Tuesday that the West had to stand up against Islamist extremists and offered to hand out T-shirts to anyone who wanted them.

"I have had T-shirts made with the cartoons that have upset Islam and I will start wearing them today," Ansa quoted Calderoli as saying.

He said the T-shirts were not meant to be a provocation but added that he saw no point trying to appease extremists.

"We have to put an end to this story that we can talk to these people. They only want to humiliate people. Full stop. And what are we becoming? The civilization of melted butter?" Calderoli said.

The publication of the cartoons in some European newspapers, including one showing an image of the prophet with a bomb for a turban, have provoked widespread anger in the Muslim world.

Many Muslims believe it is blasphemous to depict the Prophet and there have been a number of violent protests in the Middle East and Asia.

The Northern League, which is gearing up for an April general election, has leapt on the controversy to promote its own far-right political agenda.

RELIGIOUS WAR

The League has long led the charge against illegal immigration and its leaders say the cartoon violence shows the dangers of allowing Muslim immigrants to settle in Italy.

"This is only the tip of the iceberg of the religious war Islamist extremists have declared on us," Calderoli told reporters earlier this month.

Dutch plan test aimed at curbing Muslim migrants

Dutch plan test aimed at curbing Muslim migrants

By David Rennie in Brussels (Filed: 05/02/2005)

People applying to live in the Netherlands will have to take an examination to prove that they understand the language and culture, the government has proposed.

The test will require 350 hours of study and cost £250. A video for migrants contains images of Dutch life It is the latest sign of the growing hard line on immigration after decades in which Holland has been one of Europe's most relaxed nations. Murders and death threats from Muslim extremists have been matched by rising assaults on immigrants and arson attacks on mosques. There are now nearly a million Muslims in the Netherlands, or six per cent of the population.

Announcing the proposals in parliament late on Thursday, the immigration minister, Rita Verdonk, said a video film designed to capture the essence of Dutch life would be sent to applicants in their home countries. It offers images of windmills, tulips, a description of the flag and a brief biography of William of Orange. As an early warning of the liberal mores, it also shows topless women sunbathing and a homosexual wedding.

The test would not be required for European Union citizens or people from Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Canada, America, Australia, New Zealand or Japan. Female victims of people trafficking would also be exempt. It would be obligatory for all other people hoping to live in the country, commonly by marrying a Dutch citizen or by joining family members already there.

The film says Holland is "a small country with 16 million inhabitants, making it one of the most densely populated in the world". Immigrants play an important role but protests against their numbers are mounting, it adds. The language part of the test would be computerised and taken by telephone.

Applicants would be asked to repeat recorded phrases then answer simple questions in Dutch, such as: "How many wheels does a car have?" Knowledge of Dutch culture would be tested in separate sessions organised by embassies. It is expected that some 14,000 candidates, mostly from Turkey, Morocco and Suriname, will take the test each year under the proposed newcomers' integration act, which must first be approved by parliament.

What, it cant happen here?

Are we to assume that these fires were not set by muslims?

Sat Feb 11, 11:46 PM ETBIRMINGHAM, Alabama (Reuters) - Flames engulfed another Baptist church in rural Alabama on Saturday, raising to 10 the number damaged or destroyed in what the FBI is calling possible hate crimes in just over a week. The target of the latest suspected arson attack was the Beaverton Free Will Baptist Church in Lamar County, near the southern U.S. state's northwest border with Mississippi, local authorities said. The other nine churches that fell victim to the spate of fires, which began on February 3, were all in southwest Alabama.

Unlike the others, Beaverton Free Will Baptist was set ablaze in broad daylight, as a rare snowfall dusted Alabama.Cristal Oakes, a dispatcher with the Lamar County Sheriff's office, said firefighters were alerted to smoke billowing out of the cinder block Beaverton Free Will church at 4:20 p.m.Jenny Spence, the wife of a local volunteer fireman, said she heard calls over a police scanner for authorities to be on the lookout for a dark sport utility vehicle linked to the other nine church burnings.

"They took a big risk," Spence said, referring to how Saturday's attack had not occurred under cover of darkness. "There must be a certain amount of evil in someone who would do something like this. We need people's prayers," said Spence.

Alabama is predominantly Baptist. Some of the churches hit by the fires had majority white congregations, like Beaverton Free Will, while the others had mostly black congregations. The FBI has said it is examining whether the fires could be considered hate crimes under the Church Arson Prevention Act. The 1996 law makes it a crime to intentionally damage or destroy houses of worship or use threats or violence to halt the exercise of religion.

Public anger at Muslim protesters - Sunday Times - Times Online

The Sunday Times February 12, 2006

Public anger at Muslim protesters
David Smith

Poll reveals fear of future clashes

PEOPLE in Britain take a hard line against Muslims protesting violently against supposed insults to their religion, and are gloomy about future relations between Muslims and the rest of the population.
Muslims protested peacefully in Trafalgar Square yesterday. But a Sunday Times-YouGov poll of more than 1,600 people shows widespread public anger about protests earlier this month in Britain and the worldwide uprising in response to Danish cartoons picturing the prophet Muhammad.

The poll shows that 86% of people think the protests were “a gross overreaction”. By 56% to 29% respondents said it was right to publish the cartoons in Denmark and republish them elsewhere.

Earlier this month Muslim protesters in Britain carried placards urging violence and death against those who insult Islam, and celebrating last year’s July 7 London bombings. Asked about those protests, 58% said it made them angry and 76% said the police should have arrested those carrying offensive or provocative banners.

The police and politicians are criticised more generally for not confronting Islamic extremism, with 80% of respondents saying the authorities show too much tolerance of Muslims who urge extreme acts. Two-thirds, 67%, think this is because senior policemen such as Sir Ian Blair, the Metropolitan police commissioner, are too “politically correct”.

Such views have been brought to a head by last week’s conviction of Abu Hamza, the Muslim cleric, for inciting religious violence and racial hatred. After reports that his activities had been known to the police for many years, 67% believe he should have been arrested much sooner, and 69% believe he should have been given a “significantly longer” sentence than seven years.

The support for a tough line extends to the anti-terrorism bill, which returns to the Commons next week. Tony Blair backed down on a proposal for terrorist suspects to be held for up to 90 days without charge, but 44% of people back the extension to 90 days, against 42% who say 28 days is an acceptable compromise.

Where foreigners stir up racial and religious hatred, 81% of people think they should be sent back to their own countries, even if to do so would endanger their lives.

There is widespread gloom about the future, with 87% expecting further attacks in Britain by Islamic groups on the scale of the July 7 bombings; and only 17% seeing a future in which there is peaceful coexistence between Muslims and others in Britain, while 67% think there will be a worsening of tensions. This is also true internationally. While 34% say western nations can coexist peacefully with mainly Muslim countries, 45% disagree

Muslim fury at sex toy

By GUY PATRICK

FURIOUS Muslims have blasted adult shop Ann Summers for selling a blow-up male doll called MUSTAFA SHAG.
They complained that the novelty sex toy insults the Prophet Muhammad — who also has the title al-Mustafa.

The High Street chain’s jokey £15 mustachioed doll has a 7in manhood and is targeted at hen parties.

But the Muslim Association — based at Manchester’s Central Mosque and Islamic Cultural Centre — branded him “obnoxious”.

Yesterday a spokesman said: “This is the name of our Prophet and it’s very upsetting. This thing should be banned.”

In a letter to the store, the Association said: “You have no idea how much hurt, anguish and disgust this obnoxious phrase has caused to Muslims. We are asking you to have our Most Revered Prophet’s name ‘Mustafa’ and the afflicted word ‘shag’ removed.”

Last night Ann Summers said: “If anyone has a better name, please let us know. We’ll happily change it.”

The row follows global furore over cartoons which depicted Muhammad as a terrorist.

"Cartoon Controversy in Chapel Hill

By Amber Rupinta

(02/10/06 -- CHAPEL HILL) - A political cartoon in a student newspaper is triggering protests on campus.
UNC-Chapel Hill's Muslim Students Association is demanding an apology after a cartoon of the prophet Mohammed appeared in the Daily Tar Heel newspaper.

'It's very disrespectful, and I find it racist,' said student Rafsan Khan, a Muslim. 'I find it discrimination, too.'

Similar cartoons have incited violent riots for the last week around the world. Muslims held protests around the world Friday, denouncing cartoons they say defame Mohammed. Muslims believe it is forbidden to portray any images of the prophet.

Many news organizations will not show the cartoon.

The Muslim Students Association's response to the cartoon was published in today's Daily Tar Heel. It says the paper was insensitive for running the depiction of Mohammad, but newspaper editor Ryan Tuck says he had a reason for printing the cartoon.

He issued a statement on his blog, explaining his decision to run the cartoon, but offered no apology.
'They asked for a public apology, and the statement is half of that,' Tuck said. 'We're not apologizing for printing the cartoon.

Ahmadinejad: Israel 'will be removed'

Tehran (dpa) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Saturday that the Palestinians and "other nations" will eventually remove Israel from the region.

Addressing a mass demonstration in Tehran - one of many organized throughout Iran to commemorate the 27th anniversary of the Islamic revolution - he once again questioned the Holocaust "fairy tale".

"We ask the West to remove what they created sixty years ago and if they do not listen to our recommendations, then the Palestinian nation and other nations will eventually do this for them," Ahmadinejad said in a ceremony marking the 27th anniversary of the Islamic revolution.

"Do the removal of Israel before it is too late and save yourself from the fury of regional nations," the ultra-conservative president said. He once again called the Holocaust a "fairy tale" and said Europeans have become hostages of "Zionists" in Israel.

The Transmission of the Hebrew Text

The Hebrew text of the Old Testament has survived the millenniums in a substantially and remarkably pure form. Among the extant manuscripts of the Hebrew Bible from the Christian era there is an extraordinary agreement. Kennicott in his edition of the Hebrew Bible with variant readings deals with consonantal variants in more than six hundred manuscripts. 3 Dr. Robert Dick Wilson has pointed out that there are about 284,000,000 letters in the manuscripts considered by Kennicott and that among these manuscripts there are about 900,000 variants, approximately 750,000 of which are the quite trivial variation of w and y. 4

There is, Dr. Wilson remarks, only about one variant for 316 letters and apart from the insignificant w and y variation only about one variant for 1580 letters. The variants for the most part are supported by only one or by only a few of the manuscripts. Dr. Wilson has elsewhere said that there are hardly any variant readings in these manuscripts with the support of more than one out of the 200 to 400 manuscripts in which each book is found, except in the full and defective writing of the vowels, a matter which has no bearing on either the pronunciation or the meaning of the text. 5

The agreement which exists among the extant manuscripts of the Hebrew Old Testament which date from the Christian era is a sign of the extraordinary care exercised in the transmission of the text by the Jews. It is true that the oldest of these witnesses are relatively late. Among the earliest are the Leningrad Manuscript of the Prophets, which has been dated A.D. 916, and a manuscript of the Pentateuch in the British Museum, which has been thought to date back to the ninth century or earlier. 6

It was the practice of the Jews to place worn manuscripts in a receptacle called the “Geniza” and to use newer copies, which had been made with incredible care. 7 In natural course the discarded manuscripts perished. 8 But though our extant manuscripts of the Hebrew Old Testament from the Christian era are rather late, the text which they contain can he traced to a considerably earlier time.

The text of our Hebrew Bible goes back, first of all, to the Masoretes, a succession of Jewish scholars, notably connected with a school at Tiberias, whose painstaking work on the text began about A.D. 600 or before. The Masoretes introduced into the text an intricate system of accent and vowel notations. Since the Hebrew alphabet was entirely consonantal and since in earlier times no full-fledged system of vowel notation had been employed in the manuscripts, readers had been required to supply vowels to the text. The Masoretes also provided notes on the text, notes of such abundance and detail that from them alone it is possible to a considerable extent to reconstruct the text. 9

They mentioned even what they regarded as unusual accents, vowel points, and spelling. They recorded a number of variant readings — on the average of about one to a page of a printed Hebrew Old Testament 10 — and they made reference to eighteen corrections attributed to the scribes before them. 11 But the Masoretes did not originate the Hebrew traditional text. 12 They received from their predecessors a text already traditional which they treated with great reverence. Their high regard for the text that had come down to them is evidenced by their placing in the margin readings which they believed to be correct and leaving the text itself unaltered.

The Masoretes were heirs of the text in use when the Talmud was written, a text which, as is clear from the Talmud itself, had previously been in a relatively fixed condition. The Aramaic versions or paraphrases (the Targums), the Syriac Peshitto version, the Latin Vulgate version of the Old Testament, and quotations of the Old Testament in the writings of Jerome and Origen, and the Hexapla of Origen, with its Hebrew text and Greek versions, bear witness, like the Talmud, to the existence of a Hebrew text for several centuries before the time of the Masoretes which closely resembled their text.

Rabbi Akiba, who died about A.D. 132, had a high regard for exactness and fixity of text, and has been credited with inspiring measures toward the settling of the text in the early second century. 13

The view of P. de Lagarde that after A.D. 130 all manuscripts of the Hebrew Bible were closely fashioned after one archetype which had been decided on not long before that date has not been accepted by all; but it is at least the case that a type of text basically that of the Masoretes existed around A.D. 100 and that this text subsequently overcame whatever competitors it had. Biblical texts which have been discovered recently at Wady el-Muraba’at in southern Palestine, which have been dated in the second century A.D., are in notable agreement with the Masoretic text. 14 Kenyon thinks that since the end of the first century A.D. the text has not been altered in any material way. 15

Tracing the investigation still further back, Dr. Wilson maintains that citations of the Old Testament found in the New Testament, in the writings of Josephus and of Philo, and in the Zadokite Fragments bear witness to the existence of a text quite similar to the Masoretic from A.D. 40 to 100. 16

The state of the text of the Hebrew Bible about the time of Christ and somewhat earlier has been illumined in the last two decades by the discovery of a great many manuscripts in the area of the Dead Sea.

A particularly significant scroll, containing the entire book of Isaiah, in all probability dates from 100 B.C. or earlier. Here is a Hebrew text of substantial length which is about a millennium older than the manuscripts dating from the Christian era mentioned above — and it gives striking support in the main to the Masoretic text. Another scroll, which contains portions of the Hebrew text of Isaiah and which dates from perhaps 50 B.C., gives even stronger support to the traditional text.

A commentary on Habakkuk, dating probably from the first century B.C., contains a text closely akin to the Masoretic. Fragments of Leviticus, which go back at least to the second century B.C., provide a firm witness to the traditional text. Certain fragments among the scrolls, however, have some significant agreements with types of texts which diverge to some extent from the traditional or Masoretic, such as those of the Samaritan Pentateuch and of the Septuagint.

Texts somewhat out of the main line of transmission can, of course, contribute to our knowledge of the history of transmission and when carefully studied and utilized may at times make important contributions to our knowledge of the nature of the original text itself.

Mention might also be made of an ancient manuscript of the Hebrew text which was discovered before the Dead Sea scrolls came to light and which gives support to the traditional text. This witness is the Nash Papyrus, which was written perhaps around 50 or 100 B.C. and which contains portions of the text of Exodus 20 and of Deuteronomy 6.

W. F. Albright has held it to be certain — and recent discoveries give support to his position — that the Hebrew text between c. 150 and c. 50 B.C. was already fixed and that the variations between it and our Hebrew Bibles today are rarely of significance. 17

Twenty-one hurt in U.S. Border Patrol chase

Fri Feb 10, 2006 9:17 PM ET

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A U.S. Border Patrol pursuit near San Diego ended on Friday when a van believed to be transporting illegal immigrants crashed, injuring at least 21 people, including eight critically, police said.

The other injuries were apparently minor, said Maurice Luque, a spokesman for the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. He said the van involved in the crash carried 28 people.

The pursuit began early in the afternoon when the drivers of three vans and a sedan -- possibly transporting illegal immigrants -- fled from federal agents near the U.S.-Mexico border in southern San Diego County, authorities said.

The pursuit ended when the driver of one of the vehicles veered, spun out of control, careened off the freeway and overturned in a gully, police said.

A TIPPING POINT ON ISLAM’S REPUTATION

I stand by my reaction of the past couple days. But I’ve also come to a depressing conclusion.

A significant chunk of the American public, including a number of prominent thinkers on the right, have concluded that the problem with Islam… is Islam.

Fred Barnes:

It tells us a lot it tells us our enemy is not just al-Qaeda. That there's Muslims all over the world are certainly enemies of western civilization. Look at what the showing of these cartoons which I originally thought was a mistake.

They shouldn't have run them. Now I think we've learned a lot from this. We see Muslims contempt for democracy, for freedom of speech, for freedom of the press and particularly for freedom of religion…
...from the size of these demonstrations, these are not jihadists, these are not people that are trying to get into Iraq so they can blow up a Shiite mosque or something or kill American soldiers, I think this is mainstream Islam in Britain and Denmark and all over Europe and then we see these — some of them are supposedly friendly Arab governments like Egypt and other places promoting this. This is not a fringe protest against Western civilization.

Michael Medved:

The whole idea that you have some right, that it is somehow appropriate to, and will actually cause glory for your religion for you to be attacking Embassies and killing people and burning flags and rioting over some cartoons that you will never see, except they were put in your world by provocateurs, cartoons from Northern Europe.

That is a unique perspective with Islam, and shows that it has really become for many, many Muslims, unfortunately, a death cult, not a religion of life… I think there is a huge percentage of the Muslim population, probably bigger than 50%, that is susceptible to radicalization. I saw a headline today in the Seattle Times that was hilarious in its own dark way.

Its headline said officials fear upsurge in Iraq violence on eve of Shiite feast. And the whole idea that there's only one religion in the world where people assume that people coming out of services on Friday afternoon are going to riot and kill, where people associate religious celebrations with violence. That used to be true of other religions.

Free Speech

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Free Speech for those who don't seem to like the idea is a force they seek at all costs to stop. It is something that they cannot deal with. In the arena of ideas, it challenges their very existence. For centuries islam has thrived on being able to dictate what people can and cannot say about it's so-called "prophet," and his cult, and as a result has been able to suppress the truth about muhammad and islams very core.

Free Speech is not good for hate groups, they fear it and want to extinguish that flame that burns so brightly. Free Speech brings about the torch that illuminates their dark recesses and exposes them for all to see. The islamic reaction to the cartoons published by Jyllands-Posten proves that very point.

Someone may say there are limits to free speech, they say things like "you cannot yell fire in a crowded theater" (their favorite line). Well, the fact is, YES you can yell fire in a crowded theater if there is a fire in the theater, and then you better yell it, and do so at the very top of your voice. There is a fire in the crowded world in which we live, that fire is islam and its doctrine of global domination designed to force all to bow the knee to muhammads allah. This is the clarion call, this is the warning that needs to be shouted out-loud

islam seeks to go unchallenged, muslims believe that they are better than all others on the face of the planet and they see it as their mission to force all "kafir" to bend the knee to allah at the point of the sword or in the present tense the suicide bomb or the rants they live out across the world wherever they feel they have the numbers in the population to succeed.

It is nothing new to them they have been doing it since time past and will continue to do so no matter how many appease their third world mindset.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Fascism was appeased before the outbreak of WWII and we remember what that got us. islam cannot be appeased. Free and protected speech is speech that is OFFENSIVE and hurtful to others, not speech that is something that everyone agrees on. Free Speech allows people to say things that some may not like, that is why it is protected. Free speech is protected against those who would have our voices silenced in order to implement their new world order.

Without free Speech oppressive ideologys will dominate, without free expression there is no expression.

The world is at a cross roads, stand like men and fight in the face of evil, or back down like cowards and accept whatever the monsters of the world wish to foster upon us. The time to fight is now, stand up and be counted among your brothers, or suffer at the hands of your enemies.

Keep the pressure on, keep speaking out against those who seek to destroy our way of life, shine the light into their darkened corners and make them manifest to all.

PHOENIX (AP) - As public frustration grows over the state's porous border with Mexico, the once-rejected notion of using state police to supplement federal patrols is gaining traction.

One state lawmaker's plan includes $20 million for the Arizona Department of Public Safety to run a 100-member squad to operate surveillance equipment, construct border barriers, target drug and immigrant smugglers and perhaps patrol the border.

"I'm not putting the handcuffs on. Whatever they need to do, they need to be doing," said Republican Rep. Russell Pearce, the plan's sponsor.

Another proposal by Gov. Janet Napolitano would have two state police squads focus on immigrant smuggling cases. Both plans also offer millions of dollars to communities to tackle illegal immigration, and money for combating gang-related border crime.

L.A. Jihad Attack Foiled

My Way News

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush said the U.S.-led global war on terror has "weakened and fractured" al-Qaida and allied groups, outlining as proof new details about the multinational cooperation that foiled purported terrorist plans to fly a commercial airplane into the tallest skyscraper on the West Coast.

"The terrorists are living under constant pressure and this adds to our security," Bush said. "When terrorists spend their days working to avoid death or capture, it's harder for them to plan and execute new attacks on our country. By striking the terrorists where they live, we're protecting the American homeland."

But the president said the anti-terror battle is far from over.

"The terrorists are weakened and fractured, yet they're still lethal," the president said in a speech at the National Guard Memorial Building. "We cannot let the fact that America hasn't been attacked in 41/2 years since September the 11th lull us into the illusion that the threats to our nation have disappeared. They have not."

The Wyoming Tribune-Eagle in Cheyenne Publishes muhammad Cartoons

By E&P Staff Published: February 08, 2006 1:15 PM ET

NEW YORK As days pass, more and more newspapers are choosing to publish at least one of the Muhammad cartoons that are sparking violence abroad, after first appearing in Danish newspapers many months ago.Still, the number remains small.

The Wyoming Tribune-Eagle in Cheyenne, which has a tiny Muslim population, published two of the cartoons on Tuesday, including one with a bomb coming out of the head of the prophet, which appeared on the front page.

The other drawing followed on A10. Here are excerpts from the published explanation from D. Reed Eckhardt, managing editor. *True, these comics can be found with a simple Google search. But it still has worried me that even the nation’s biggest newspapers, usually so bold and aggressive in defending Americans’ First Amendment right to know, have declined to publish the cartoons. And The Associated Press, which is carried by virtually all U.S. daily newspapers of size, has refused to distribute them, essentially censoring its member newspapers – and their readers.

VIGIL: Candles are lit yesterday outside the Jersey City home where Hossam Armanious and wife Amal Garas and their daughters were killed. - Felix Bryant

January 16, 2005 -- The father of a murdered New Jersey family was threatened for making anti-Muslim remarks online — and the gruesome quadruple slaying may have been the hateful retaliation, sources told The Post yesterday.

Hossam Armanious, 47, who along with his wife and two daughters was found stabbed to death in his Jersey City home early Friday, would regularly debate religion in a Middle Eastern chat room, one source said.
Armanious, an Egyptian Christian, was well known for expressing his Coptic beliefs and engaging in fiery back-and-forth with Muslims on the Web site paltalk.com.

He "had the reputation for being one of the most outspoken Egyptian Christians," said the source, who had close ties to the family.

The source, who had knowledge of the investigation, refused to specify the anti-Muslim statement. But he said cops told him they were looking into the exchanges as a possible motive.

Moscow museum to exhibit Mohammed cartoons

Moscow museum to exhibit Mohammed cartoons

MOSCOW, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- A Moscow museum has announced it will exhibit the entire series of cartoons of Mohammed that have caused riots throughout the Islamic world.

Yury Samodurov, director of the Sakharov Museum and Public Center, said on Russian television that the center was ready to organize a public exhibition of the cartoons satirizing the founder of Islam that originally were published in a Danish newspaper, Pravda.ru reported Monday.
"We must show the whole world that Russia goes along with Europe, that the freedom of expression is much more important for us than the dogmas of religious fanatics," Samodurov said.

The exhibition reportedly will open in March. Lawyer Yury Shmidt has said he will invite French philosopher Andre Glucksmann and French novelist Michel Houellebecq to the opening ceremony to read lectures about the threat of Islamic fundamentalism.

In 2003 the Sakharov Museum outraged many Russian Orthodox believers with the art exhibit "Be Careful -- Religion," which many felt was insulting to their beliefs.

The Danish embassy in Tehran was the scene of angry protests

At least five people have been killed in Afghanistan as protests against European cartoons mocking the Prophet Muhammad swept across the country.

Two people died when protesters turned on the US airbase at Bagram - although the US has had no involvement with the images, which originated in Denmark.

Meanwhile in Somalia, a teenage boy died after protesters attacked police.

Iran announced it was halting trade with Denmark, as protesters pelted the Danish embassy with petrol bombs.

Police fired tear gas in a bid to keep back hundreds of angry demonstrators, some of whom attempted to scale the wall into the embassy compound. Earlier, the Austrian embassy in Tehran came under attack.

The violence follows attacks on Danish embassies in Syria and Lebanon over the weekend. The cartoons were first published in a Danish newspaper.

ANKARA, Turkey — A teenage boy shot and killed the Italian Roman Catholic priest of a church in the Black Sea port city of Trabzon on Sunday, shouting "God is great" as he escaped, according to police and witnesses.

Officers were searching for the boy aged around 14 or 15, according to a police official who declined to be identified because of rules that bar Turkish civil servants from speaking to journalists without prior authorization.

The police official would not say if the attack might be linked to the printing in European newspapers of caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad, which has caused anger in Muslim countries. Earlier Sunday, hundreds of Turks protested in Istanbul against the cartoons.

"Whether the killing is linked to the caricatures will emerge when the culprit has been caught," Trabzon's Gov. Huseyin Yavuzdemir said.

The priest, 60-year-old Andrea Santoro, was shot hours after Mass at Santa Maria Church.

A woman who answered the telephone at the church said the priest was inside when he was attacked, and prosecutor Burhan Cobanoglu said he was shot twice from behind, with bullets ripping through his heart and liver.

Mr Rumsfeld, who attended a weekend security conference in Munich, Germany, made no bones about the seriousness of the situation.

"All options - including the military one - are on the table," he told a German newspaper. "Any government that says Israel has no right to exist is making a statement about its possible behaviour in the future." At the conference, Mr Rumsfeld accused Tehran of being behind international terrorism.

"Iran is the main sponsor of terrorist organisations such as Hezbollah and Hamas," he said.

Lebanon minister quits over riot

Mr Sabeh (centre) resigned after the rioting

Beirut protests
Lebanese Interior Minister Hassan Sabeh resigned after demonstrators set fire to Beirut's Danish embassy on Sunday.
On Saturday, mobs in Syria torched the Danish and Norwegian embassies in Damascus in a row over cartoons depicting the prophet Muhammad.

"A few minutes ago I put my resignation at the disposal of the cabinet. I didn't wait for an answer and left the meeting," Mr Sabeh said.

Danish Foreign Minister Per Stig Moeller has called for calm.

"It is a critical situation and it is very serious," he told Danish public radio.

'Black day'

Danes living in Lebanon have been told to leave the country or stay indoors.

Mr Sabeh said 1,200 security men and 1,600 army troops had been called in to prevent peaceful protests turning violent on Sunday.

"But things got out of hand when elements that had infiltrated into the ranks of the demonstrators broke through security shields," Mr Sabeh said.

"The one remaining option was an order to shoot, but I was not prepared to order the troops to shoot Lebanese citizens," he added.

The violence has been condemned by political leaders across the country, says the BBC's correspondent Jim Muir.

Around 200 people have been arrested, including more than 70 Syrians and some Palestinians, as well as Lebanese.

Some leading politicians were quick to accuse Syria of instigating the violence in order to undermine Lebanese security, our correspondent says.

Thousands of protesters attacked the Danish mission in Beirut

Lebanon's leading Sunni politician Saad Hariri, said the violence was a "black day" for Lebanon's Muslims.

The cartoons first appeared in a Danish newspaper in September and caused outrage among Muslims, who consider any images of Muhammad offensive.

One of the cartoons shows Muhammad wearing a bomb-shaped turban.

Newspapers across Europe republished the pictures in recent days, saying they are defending freedom of expression.

'Respect our religion'

Huge crowds attended Sunday's protest in the Christian neighbourhood where the Danish embassy is located.

The protest started out peacefully, but turned violent after Islamic extremists tried to break though security barriers protecting the building.

"We have a right to defend our prophet," one protester told the BBC.

Fighting islam At Home

Since Muslims have begun their most-recent Crusade against Occidental Culture, a growing number of westerners has started re-evaluating the creation and teachings of this political ideology the ignorant among us still consider "The Religion of Islam."

Despite this, the overwhelming majority of westerners are still among the "duped" who consider the ideology a 'religion' that deserves all the protections and rights accorded to legitimate religions (such as Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism and Judaism) by a Democracy such as the United States.

And it is usually these people who have likely not even bothered to buy a Koran and read it who are the first to leap up in protest whenever some brave soul among us makes the obvious observation:"Look. All these people trying to kill us lately -- they have one thing in common, don't they? They're all Muslims!""No! No! No!" Replies the ignorant expert. "They aren't Muslims at all! These are extremists! These are people who don't understand the religion! Who pervert it to suit their own selfish desires!"But you and I know better, don't we?

We know better because we have read through the Koran and realized from the first few pages that the pedophile Muhammad created his political ideology in order to accomplish several important goals.

1. He wanted to unite the Arab tribes -- who were, until then, warring with one another as well as worshipping the gods of other cultures (ala any other major warlord in History worth his saddle);

2. He wanted to establish a creation mythology and notion of racial superiority for these Arab people (ala Adolph Hitler and the Nazi party);

3. He wanted to establish himself as God's man on Earth -- who better to lead the new political group called 'Muslims'? (ala any tyrannical king who claimed to have descended directly from the Gods -- or at least been favored by them.)
http://www.hannity.com/forum/showpos...8&postcount=10

It's obvious to most westerners who take the time to read the Koran that illiterate Muhammad manipulated the ignorant masses (He himself paints them as some type of noble savage in the Koran) by putting words into God's mouth and presenting himself as a true prophet, though anyone with any sense would know he is the epitome of a false prophet. So now we have a slight problem here in the United States -- and in the other valid Democracies around the world.

Our legal system still sees Islam as a religion.

This means Muslims don't pay taxes when they collect money at their ... gathering places. Not only do we let these members of a political group that seeks the destruction of Democracy collect money under our very noses, but we don't even have the courage to tax them!Is it any wonder they laugh at us when they're sitting on their dirt floors in some desert country counting the money collected in American cities -- used to buy weapons and bombs?

We educate Muslims in our western universities -- and Islam gives us bomb experts, blown up embassies ... 9/11!We give Islam the protection accorded to legitimate religions in our nation -- and Islam collects money and channels it to terrorists who maim and butcher our brothers, sisters, sons and daughters!

We give Muslims millions upon millions of dollars in disaster relief -- and Islam repays us with videos of westerners being beheaded, screaming, writhing in pain at the hands of Muslims. We give Muslims Democracy and Islam gives us Hamas! So now I say it's time to start fighting back in America.

The first thing we have to do is get our government to recognize Islam for what it truly is -- a political ideology. We need to stop giving this sham religion the respect it doesn't deserve and start treating it like the anti-Democratic, war-loving, hateful ideology it is.

It's time to call a spade a spade. An ordinance should be passed in a community somewhere in America that declares Islam not a religion but a Political Ideology. It needs to get challenged and defended by Americans all over. It needs to get to the increasingly Conservative SCOTUS and that great institution needs to have the courage to stand up before all Americans and the rest of the world and call this ideology an ideology -- and in so doing let the Muslim world know that We Have Had Enough.

Peaceful and Tolerant Muslim on the Attack...Again!

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — Rage against caricatures of Islam's revered prophet poured out across the Muslim world Saturday, with aggrieved believers calling for executions, storming European buildings and setting European flags afire.
Hundreds of Syrian demonstrators have stormed the Danish Embassy in Damascus, and they've set fire to the building.
The building that's been set on fire in the Syrian capital also houses the embassies of Chile and Sweden.

Protesters have been staging sit-ins outside the embassy almost daily since the uproar over the drawings broke out last week.

Witnesses say today's protest started peacefully, but that as anger escalated, protesters broke through police barriers and torched the building.

In Gaza City, demonstrators hurled stones at a European Commission building and stormed a German cultural center, smashing windows and doors. Protesters also burned German and Danish flags and called for a boycott of Danish products.
In the West Bank town of Hebron, about 50 Palestinians marched to the headquarters of the international observer mission there, burned a Danish flag and demanded a boycott of Danish goods.

Call for Jihad over prophet cartoon row goes online

Muslim "extremists" rally faithful on Internet to Jihad against countries where Mohammed’s cartoons are published.By Habib Trabelsi - PARISMuslim extremists are using the furore over the Prophet Mohammed cartoons published in European newspapers to rally the faithful to a jihad (holy war), in several Internet postings.

"Brothers, it's war against Islam ..., grab your swords," says hardline Saudi cleric Sheikh Badr bin Nader al-Mashari in a voice recording posted on an Islamist website. He said the cartoons - first published by a Danish newspaper in September with several other European papers following suit over the past week - are "part of the war waged by the decadent West against the triumphant Islam"."To the billion Muslims: where are your arms? Your enemies have trampled on the prophet.

Rise up," screamed the sheikh, who is the imam of a mosque in Riyadh, amid the cries of the faithful listening to his speech.Muslim bloggers even launched a website, www.no4denmark.com, exhorting the faithful to boycott Danish products.Danish dairy products have already been banned from supermarkets in most Arab countries in the wake of the crisis. But many bloggers said trade sanctions will lead nowhere, calling for a more militant response."

Boycotts and messages of indignation instead of bombs and explosives," lamented female blogger Ashiqat al-Jihad (lover of the holy war) in one posting.Another blogger singled out France, where the left-leaning paper Liberation reprinted two of the controversial cartoons. The influential Le Monde also splashed a cartoon of the prophet on its front page Thursday, a day after France Soir reproduced all of the original cartoons that appeared in the Danish paper Jyllands-Posten citing its right to free expression."Our prophet was insulted again by France.

The boycott will accomplish nothing. We need bombs and explosives," said another blogger under the pseudonym Abu Badr.A blogger using the name Ubda called on Islamic militants in Iraq, Palestine and Chechnya not to spare any Danes and Norwegians they come across."Slit their throats in the style of (Abu Musab) al-Zarqawi," he said referring to Iraq's most wanted militant and leader of Al-Qaeda in the war-torn country.

London-based Arab newspaper Al-Quds Al-Arabi published Thursday a statement attributed to an Al-Qaeda linked group, the Brigades of Abu Hafs al-Masri, warning Denmark and all those who insult the prophet with a "bloody war"."The infidels must know that the coming days will see a bloody war and a series of blessed conquests," said the statement.

"Day of anger" threatened over cartoons of "prophet"

Day of anger threatened over cartoons of ProphetBy David Rennie, Europe Correspondent and Tim Butcher in Jerusalem(Filed: 03/02/2006)

David Rennie: Full text of interview with Danish Muslim activist

A leading Islamic cleric called for an "international day of anger" today over publication of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed, and a Danish activist predicted that deadly violence could break out in Europe "at any minute".

Sheikh Yussef al-Qaradawi: 'International day of anger'
As more European newspapers reprinted the cartoons, what started off as a row between Denmark's press and its Muslim population grew into a full-blown "clash of civilisations".
Anger boiled over in the Gaza Strip, where gunmen from Islamic Jihad occupied the office of the European Union. Europeans began to leave the Palestinian territories after threats from the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades.

Jihad al-Momani, the editor of the Jordanian newspaper al-Shihan, was sacked for trying to publish three of the 12 caricatures. He said that he was aiming "to show his readers "the extent of the Danish offence".

A leading hard-line Muslim cleric, Sheikh Yussef al-Qaradawi, called for the day of anger to protest against the printing of the cartoons - first published in the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten in September - in other European papers.

"Let Friday be an international day of anger for God and his prophet," said the sheikh, who is the head of the International Association of Muslim Scholars. He is one of the Arab world's most popular television preachers and made a controversial visit to London in July 2004 as a guest of the mayor, Ken Livingstone.

Ahmed Akkari, a Muslim theologian from Copenhagen, said he had attended a meeting this week with the Danish intelligence service, which called the situation "very, very tense".

He said that a text message had been sent to the mobile phones of young Muslims "telling people not to react to provocations from Right-wing extremists, like burning the Koran, but I know some Muslims will not listen to our message".

He said the level of anger was "very high" in the Muslim community across Europe and the wider world.

"It is more likely [than not] that any minute we will hear of violence unless the police can control the situation."

Mr Akkari is the spokesman for a group of Danish imams and activists who brought the cartoons - plus three more offensive ones from an unknown source - to the wider attention of Muslims in trips to Egypt and Lebanon. One of the three new cartoons shows Mohammed with a pig's snout.
